Send specific media types to specific zones automatically?
« on: November 23, 2011, 04:55:12 pm »

Is there a way to have MC send specific media types each to a specific zone for playback?

I'd like to have music files automatically go to a zone that feeds my stereo, while video files automatically go to a zone which goes through the TV.

+1, this would solve a lot for me.
Video for one zone, audio for another

yes (i guess), you can use mc17.exe /Append track.[media type]|Zone=3
in combo with and expression..in "send to external.."

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/The_Command_Line

the filetypes are also fully configurable under options

an easy option, to be able to configure each file type, to which zone (if more than one zone setup). double click that file will send it automatically to that zone. reason i'd like this feature, is i have different DSP settings for video and audio.

not sure how this works?

something like this

options: File types

File Type: Mp3
playback method: custom
Program: MC17.exe
Arguments: //play "[Filename]"|Zone=1

File Type: avi
playback method: custom
Program: MC17.exe
Arguments: //play"[Filename]"|Zone=2

maybe you can use checker first..if file is in PN then play else add..

but i guess using send to external tool is what you are looking for

thanks, i'll try the custom file type thing as it will be automatic when double clicking the album or file.
the 'send to' method is a lot of trouble with remembering and doing the right click menus and tree.

you should only need one..like "send to media type zone", since you can use expressions in the argument

but you have to "play around", MC is pretty unlimited  ;)

i can't seem to get this working.
in file types wav, using external program custom, j river.exe and using //play "[Filename]"|Zone=1 for argument. i double click on a file in the library and it just hangs

only MC17.exe should be added to the program path

Looks like a decent work-around, but a bit convoluted.

I'd hope to simply be able to select "File Types -> AUDIO (all the types/not one by one) and have a selection for 'Media Type Assigned Zone' so all I need do after that is double click a file for it to play in the assigned Zone.

Of course we don't always get what we hope for.

i think that that would be nice.. and its there already for a bit.. its what happens you play music and start to watch images.. but it would need more than that to be usefull (for me)... the magical imagezone does for instance not play the small vids from my photocamera that are in the same playlist as the images i selected.

A feature like this would be even more useful if it was possible to make zone specific excerps based on metadata rather than file name extension.

you have expressions to do just that...

That's great. Honestly, I have not been able to figure out how, though...

Like to revive this thread,
I would find this very useful to easily set up zones that have specific file types only sent to them (e.g. one for audio one for video) automatically sent to that zone when playing from the library. reason being, i like to have different DSP setups for music and video. The option to Right click/send to/zone, is a bit tedious and easily not remembered.

Wouldn't you really prefer DSP studio to have tabs that 'apply to media type'?

I think tis would be easier to set, multiple settings for DSP studio.

it would do away with having 2 zones.
Video, and music having each their own separate DSP settings.
But, if their was a zone for video, and zone for audio, wouldn't need separate DSP and it would kill 2 birds with the one stone.

I've suggested to Matt that we need Multiple DSP that can be configured and applied.  I did try using Zones but one issue with this approach is that is that you can get a conflict with the two zones hitting one Audio Card.

ah ok. multi DSP for video and audio would be great.

Of course there is a long list of stuff on the list the JR'ers are looking at and I have no idea where this is on that list!

I think tis would be easier to set, multiple settings for DSP studio.

This could help in that the DSP Effects for my music (Concert Hall) would not effect the audio for my video (as that makes the dialog harder to understand).

However when someone clicks on a video and selects Play (or double clicks in a Windows folder), it would still knock my music playlist out of Playing Now.

Most often I intend to finish playing that music again after the movie, and this is as much of an issue for me as the DSP being type specific.
