Intel storage and chipset drivers updated
« on: November 16, 2011, 01:34:57 pm »

The most recent version of the Intel chipset (INF update) and storage drivers contain some significant fixes for laptops and desktop/server mobos running an Intel ICH7, 8, 9, 10, and related disk controllers.

Problems fixed include the stability and recoverability of raid disk volumes as well as potential data loss issues on ANY disk volume >4Tb.  Intel lists several test cases where raid volumes get into a wholly unrecoverable state with previous driver versions.

Users ALSO need to be sure that their mobo BIOS are up to date so the raid OROM (raid bios) are at current levels.

This isn't a panic situation, just routine driver maintenance and updates.  If you are running machines with Intel chipsets, it's a good idea to check Intel for updates and fixes from time to time.

Install the chipset (INF update) drivers **first** with the -overall command line switch, version 9.2.3.1022.

reboot

Then install the latest Intel RST (storage) drivers, version 10.8.0.1003.

As with anything that affects your storage, backups or other safeguards are a Damned Good Idea before messing with drivers.

Here is the link I usually use to check for Intel software:
