Problems playing .flac file
« on: December 09, 2011, 12:05:31 pm »

I have recently installed 17beta (and have just downloaded the latest upgrade (17.050). I am having difficulty playing one particular music file (the last in an album) in the .flac format, downloaded from a reputable source: it is 4 minutes 20 in duration, but irritatingly, it cuts out a few seconds before the end.  The track plays perfectly on my VLC player.  Does any one have any suggestions?

Just a suggestion, you might want to test the flac file, but you'll have to use an external tool to do so.

Do you know how to run a command-line tool?

Thanks, but I  don't know how to do that.  As I said though, I can play the file successfully on the VLC media player, so there doesn't seems to be a problem with the file.

Understood.  I perceive your goal is to get it to play correctly in Media Center.  If so, it is helpful to understand what is tripping up MC.  First you want to rule out issues with the file.  That VLC plays it may indicate it is more forgiving in this case, not that the file has no internal errors.

There may be other things that will resolve the matter, but eliminating obvious problems is the first step.

Would you be willing to upload the file (in private) so that I can test it?  If so, use one of the various large file upload sites.

Thanks for the offer. I know realise it was something in the settings which was causing this and, in fact other tracks to cut out early.  I have got it down to one second now -it then moves on absolutely instantly to the next track.  Ideally, I want to avoid the track cutting out at all and to leave a second or so between tracks.  If you can advise that would be great -otherwise I shall carry on experimenting -it does not seem exactly intuitive to me.

See the various settings for the following options under:  Player > Playback Options > Audio :

  - Switch tracks
  - Use gapless for sequential album tracks
