OT: Asynchronous USB
« on: December 28, 2011, 02:14:07 am »

I have an async USB DAC.  Does anybody know of any Windows tools that can confirm whether the USB connection is genuinely running in ASYNC mode when connected?

Cheers,

Mark

How do I use Device Manager to confirm Async mode?

Try Thesycon USB Descriptor Dumper
It gives a description of all the flags including adaptive/async, sample rates supported, etc

Thanks, Vincent - that's perfect!  Great site you've set up there.

Vincent, thanks for posting about the Thesycon USB Descriptor Dumper. I just check my new Steinberg UR824 last night and it uses asynchronous syncronization. I thought it did, but wanted to confirm. The UR824 uses the same clocking method (DICE 2 digital input chip with JET Jitter Elimination by TC Electronic) as the new Mytek 192 stereo which is also asynchronous.

Always good to check as the specs are often unclear.
Asynchronous DAC might imply a USB with asynchronous synchronization but might also be used for a DAC with asynchronous sample rate conversion.
