MJ Crashes when:

Everywhere where there is a menu slider

When going down in the menus (with the menu slider), MJ crashes.

Hey bennyd,

Try disabling AV temporarily.  Does that make a difference?  I think this was a known issue with AV a few builds ago. (I could be wrong)

Thanks.

PLEASE let us know if you think the bugs you report now are show stoppers.  We're about ready to call it "Release Candidate".

Bennyd,
Try a full version install (the 9MB version), then an update.  Is it skin related?  You might start a new thread on this.

Uninstalled AV and all works fine now, thanks

For me it's ready for release candidate, small bugs will always be there, otherwise you will be out of jobs

The only things that bother me are some appearance bugs and a few minor details. Other than that, I think it's good to go.

Oh and the video resizing problem is fixed! yay! Next Page

I know that this is only a little bug, but is always the first link in MJ's tree...

--Since 6-7 build, as said in some of my previous posts, if I left click on 'GO Start' (it was 'Home' when working) in the tree I get an Internet Explorer error that translating say:
Impossible to find "D:\J River\Media Juke\Data\WebPages\HomePage\index.htm". Verify that Internet address will be correct.
If I right click on GO Start and Update Web Pages, MJ download web pages that I found at that above address, but with the same error.
Trying to correct the address in Regedit, that page I found in D:\J River\Media Juke\Data\WebPages\HomePage\index.htm seems not registered and so not present in it.

Matt, I was replying to Jim about RC. I forgot to add that. I'm working 60hrs a week from 5:00am. I'm a little tired.

I'll send you a full report w/ pictures if you want. Then you can see what I'm talking about. Words just really can't explain it (I've mentioned it a few times). It's not a big deal...no one else I've seen complained about it.

JimH or Matt,
I'm sorry to ask again about this issue, but if you are about ready to call it "Release Candidate", don't you think that in Web Media if someone is looking for Radios using 'DSL\CABLE\LAN' or 'Anything Faster' filters (in Find Stations Field) should find a little less slow stations?

Many thanks for all other fixes

1.  I can save notes - thank you!

2.  A bug fixed in last build is back again.  Select options in CD Copy window, change file location, click ok ---> Options and CD Copy window move behind MJ window.

3.  Slight grammatical error in Help file remains: Help ----> How To ----> Handhelkds ---> Bitrate Conversion ---> Item #2.
'The selected encoder supports the media file type. (For example, if the encoder selected is "Windows Media™" and the media type supported by the handheld device is "mp3", no conversion will not be performed.)'

4.  I still would like to see the gridline graphics distortion that occurs with scrollling by mouse wheel or clicking in vertical scrollbar resolved.

Thanks again, Matt and Jim

Bug:
1. On the New Skin dialog that states Media Jukebox has to restart to use new skin, there is a nice checkbox for Don't show this message again.  But, you cannot enable the checkbox...no matter how hard you try.  So, that's the bug.  [I think this should be fixed or the checkbox removed before RC.]

To bennyd,
That bug you reported that you fixed by getting rid of AV.
Rhino already introduced an option to disable the scroll wheel in the latest build of AV.
If you disable the scroll wheel it should fix that bug without you having to remove AV.

As for Release candidate,
Before you do it there are a couple of bugs you need to fix:
 1. When trying to import .mov files it says REAL player is trying to find an update (.mov files are apple files though not real so this makes no sense to me). Anyway, it obviously doesn't find an update as Real isn't the player for .mov files. Anyway, after you click OK on that screen saying that it cant find any new codecs or whatever, it just hangs on that file and still says it's trying to import it and the only way to get it to stop (have tried leaving it for 15 mins with no luck) is to ctrl|PLS|alt|PLS|del kill it.

Also, not a bug, but any chance of that option to let it try play if not import unrecognised file types?

Bug in 8.0.265beta - CD names not shown correctly

If you need more info: albrecht-waldbronn@web.de

Still the process of reading the content of MP3 CDs is not real good. If
a CD, that shows up in the explorer as 'Complete_CDs_01', is read, the
section File Location shows (0x5601E92A) and the section CD and DVD media a
CD named 'unassigned'. If I add mores CDs, it still shows a single
'unassigned' folder instead of the real name of the CD. Out of 5 CDs
'Complete_CDs_01' through 'Complete_CDs_05' only the last showed with
correct name under CD and DVD media.

To show the content of a specific CD is therefore not straight forward!

Can this be changed?

My system: NT 4.0 with all SPs, 500 Mhz PIII, 198MB RAM

Shotgun2,
Do check for updates, then try reinstalling plugins or disabling skins.  It is probably not a bug.

Don't you owe me something?

---From JimH: Try a full version install (the 9MB version), then an update.

Yes I also think that if someone made an old upgrade during a possible multible instances of MJ, some new softw. code could be lost.
I recived many benefits by this you said.

Hi JimH

Already did check for updates: Only update listed was for APE which I downloaded.

<>

Probably do. I've been on a couple of weeks hospital stay vacation. I hope it is not something connected with money that I owe you. That's rather hard to come by these days.

Please advise

Two old problems....

1: If MJ is loaded, Win XP can't be restarted or turned off until I kill MJ.   Have never seen this on any other program.
2: Skin Manager often minimizes before I get a chance to make my selection.   This happens in either MINI-ME or MAGA-ME.   It should not go away unless I click out side the box, make a selection or cancel... all standard Windows proceedures.

Thanks

My ripping woes are unchanged with this release (same since my first try with 8.0.265).  For me, this is a show-stopper.

Summary:  Digital-secure does not work on my Dell with Dell-supplied CDROM (Lite-On LTN486 48x Max).  Message is: "failed to read sector _; Incorrect Function)".  Ripping works in other modes, but I often don't find them reliable (e.g., comparing with EAC) so my practice is to use digital-secure always.

However, digital-secure DOES work, albeit quite slowly, if I am simultaneously playing a track from the same CD; not practical, but cool and an important piece of data.

If anyone has suggestions for fixing this or getting more info, please let me know.

Just the best - but need one super Mega-Me Skin to match others'
presentation out there. This would only enhance super plug-ins like album view and new slide show.

Noborg,

Does your Lite-On drive support Acurrate-Stream?  If so, digital-secure may be overkill and Digial Large Buffer may be just fine.  Use EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to determine Acurrate-Stream support (if you are not sure).

Keyword 'numberplays=' doesn't seem to work as supposed to anymore, probably since 8.0.267.

When it first arrived to MJ, I used numberplays=<1 to display songs never played. Now it only displays 2 songs, and I know for a fact that there are 1500|PLS| files never played fully. numberplays==0 doesn't work neither.

Thanks!

ZRocker -

Yes, my Lite-on drive supports accurate-stream.  But I have found (over time, with many CDs and EAC comparisons), that digital-secure is the only thing that I can pretty much count on.   I compress using APE exclusively, and don't want to lose quality anywhere.

Note that digital-secure works just fine with this computer, this drive, and MJ 7.2, so there should be no fundamental reason for it not working in MJ 8.

Hi,

I have the Archos Jukebox Recorder 10.  Is that a supported device?  It doesn't show up in the device list even though it shows up fine in Windows Explorer.  The CD-ROM drive shows up fine, by the way.

Still have an annoying but not critical dialog box problem (skinned or un-skinned).

When a new CD is recognized the "Gathering information and updating view" dialog comes up, then behind it, the CDDB progress box comes up.  If there's no problem, the CDDB dialog disappears, then the "gathering..," box.  If there's a problem in the CDDB process that doesn't cause a 3rd dialog to come up, the progress dialog displays the error message, but it's still hidden behind the "gathering..." dialog and the only clue that there's a problem is that the "gathering..." dialog just hangs there.   The CDDB error I just got that highlighted the problem was "Malformed command sent from server to client" on Tangerine Dream/Pergamon.

Ripping problems:

If I put in a CD, then click on "CD, DVD, & Handhelds" before the drive is ready, MJ puts up the "Gathering information and updating view" message box, shows the CDDB icon in upper left, then hangs.  I have to kill the process to get out of it.  This works fine if CDDB lookup is disabled.

If I start ripping, then forget to navigate somewhere else, and press play while on "CD, DVD, & Handhelds", the drive seeks like crazy trying to do two things at once and MJ hangs.  (Digital playback is on.)  Maybe play should be disabled?

While doing the CDDB lookup, MJ puts up the gathering info message box and the CDDB message box underneath it, both with cancel buttons.  Shouldn't there be just one, or the CDDB box on top?

Lite-on LTD163 DVD drive

Just noticed another ripping issue...

In Digital Secure mode if cancel is pressed before all tracks are read, the dialog showing the status of the tracks that were read never appears.  I've got 3 readers in the server and usually load all 3 and let them rip in sequence.  If the last CD has read problems and hangs trying to read a sector, and I cancel, I can't tell what the results of the first 2 rips was.

Can this be optional as well? I find myself forgetting to turn off my TV all the time because the screen's just black. I'd made myself a replacement image which was pretty minimal but would remind me that the TV was still on.

MJ=best software ever!!

A few problems...
-can't import realmedia or quicktime movies to media library. Only works if I use "open media file"
-MJ skips .wma music files on playback
-"please wait, contacting realplayer for software" message still appears when importing certain (old?) quicktime media.
-alot of "buffering...." during playback
-get persistent runtime error message during playback and when trying to import media (could be my computer)

Zedx,
Welcome and thanks for what you said about MJ on CNET.

Some WMA files are "licensed".  Were they encoded on a different machine?  "Personal security" setting in WMP can cause that.  It can be fixed with software from MS.

Which island?

Hey JimH, thanks for responding. I've been beta-testing for a few months now and haven't really had a problem since 8.0248. I'm a big fan of the software and as for the CNET thing, well I was just telling the truth.
My .wma were encoded with the windows encoder/ dbpowerAmp and are not protected. I'm more concerned about the runtime errors though, although it could be my outdated laptop and my software addiction.Next Page

ZedX,
Did you install a full version of 8.0 first, then the update?  Worth a try.  Uninstall, get the 9MB download from the downloads page, then update from a thread here.

Also try the Windows Update option under tools in IE.

I had not the last version build installed...
Sorry.

XP shutdown bug here too. Thgought maybe it was related to AV plug-in but still there after AV uninstalled.

This is one hell of a release candidate. Go for it.

One thing I have observed that would be good to get handled is the grid line disturbance, that appears if I let
the mouse "dwell" or hang at a line. the line disappears, and after a while I get a very disturbed content view with
several lines missing and some lines in place.

Boy I we're close to filnal on this and I wish I asked earlier, maybe someone else did and I missed it, but is there anyway we could get DSP studio to come up with the last active screen? i.e. If DSP studio is on EQ when closed then reopen in EQ.

Just a little nit to pick. Looking great!

"please wait" pop up window freeze

It is not really a bug but it is a little bit annoying: when I applied a property modification on a lot of files selected, the "please wait" window counts 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. sometimes a little more and then it freezes until the end of the operation. When the operation is very long (thousands files selected) there is no way to estimate the remaining time.
I can live with that though !

Another annoying but not critical problem...

If you have more than 1 playback device, the MJ volume control doesn't always control the device that it's playing to.

My laptop has an internal Crystal WDM device plus I added a USB audio device that came with my headset.  In Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia, the Crystal is set as the preferred device and "use only preferred devices" is NOT checked.  In MJ, Wave Out and the USB device are selected as the playback device.  Playback works fine except that slidng the MJ volume control actually changes the volume of the Crystal instead of the USB.  I can open both system volume controls and watch "Master Out" for the Crystal moving up and down uselessly as I change the MJ volume.

Even if the USB device is set as the preferred device and MJ is set to Wave Out/Wave Mapper it still plays to the USB device but the volume control changes the Crystal device.

---UPDATE--------------------------------------------------------
Oops, just found another minor ripping problem...

If "Eject CD after ripping" (which isn't device specific) is selected and there's more than device, only the last device used is ejected.

I've got 3 readers in the server (D, E, F) and if i load all 3 and start a rip, they'll rip in reverse order and only D will eject at the end.  I think each device should eject as it's finished.

Remy,
I also saw the eject problem you report.  Thanks.  We'll get it in the next build.
