MC keeps on hijacking my ASIO? [SOLVED]
« on: January 02, 2012, 06:34:49 am »

This has been a problem before and it's now back again. Whenever I use MC, I stop getting audio in my other applications like web browsers or other media players. It's like MC is hijacking the audio and making it exclusive only to MC. How can I change this behavior?

ASIO is an exclusive mode by design. It bypasses the standard Windows audio subsystem. When a program is using ASIO the Windows audio mixer has no access to the same audio device. You should use the Direct Sound output mode in MC if you want to output audio from more than one program.

But the problem is, sometimes even after I close MC, I still don't hear audio in my other apps, and I have no idea how to get audio back for my other apps. Shouldn't MC "let go" of its exclusive hold on ASIO once I close MC?

Check there isn't a MediaCenter process hanging around in the background using Task Manager.
It maybe you've got a server component loaded.

You should have audio back in other applications after closing MC. I have experienced that 'the other application' also need a restart after MC has been closed to make things work.

Sometimes you need to restart the other program before it can utilize the hardware. If you are on youtube or something, a page refresh will usually suffice.

Thanks--I'll do that from now on.
