I'm not sure exactly when the change became effective.  I've noticed it before today, but only now did it dawn on me a change was made.  Here's a quote of mine from a thread that's almost 4 years old:

I like the painting, but it makes a lousy favicon.  Way to small to know what it is.  The round control icon, like at the top right of the forum and on the taskbar, would be a much better choice as the favicon.  Or, maybe the letters, "MC" which is short and instantly recognizable.

The round control icon has been selected.  You guys do listen, even if it takes awhile.  Thanks.
