Please update Replay Gain Analysis with EBU R128
« on: January 30, 2012, 01:39:24 am »

I was working on calibrating the gain of my system to 83 dB SPL with -20 dB rms pink noise which is the newer industry standard for music using the "K-System". Replay gain correlates OK with the K-20 meters, however, it would be great if you could update MC audio analysis (now using Replay Gain) to use the new R128 loudness standard.
Code here: http://r128gain.sourceforge.net/

BTW this gain setting works for video reference level too.

Read all about it here:http://www.digido.com/level-practices-part-2-includes-the-k-system.html
and here: http://tech.ebu.ch/loudness

I used this VST K-Meter plug-in: http://www.audiopluggers.com/kmeter/index.html

Here's a free VST meter AC-R128: https://www.audiocation.de/en/plugin

I never really explained why I want this change. My system is capable of getting way too loud with some recordings. That power is great on the transient of a snare drum but it can just be too loud on many "loudness maximized" cd's. Replay Gain or more recently R128 is a great solution to set all music to a "reference" maximum volume level that is loud enough for most of us.

1. Analyze your music per R128 K-20 (similar to replay gain) and turn on volume levelling.
2. The meters below will read 0 average signal level on loud passages if everything is working as intended.
3. Set up so -20 dB rms pink noise is 83 dB out of a single channel in the listening position (digital volume @ 100%).
4. Now leave your amplifier gain alone and use internal digital volume in JRiver.
5. 100% volume will be the same loudness for all your music and it will be referenced to a known standard. If you want to discuss how loud you like a song you can just mention what % of reference volume you listen at.
