I described my latest (8.0.272) ripping problems in the 8.0.272 beta thread, but I've reverted back a couple of versions and the previous behavior with those versions is now different - so I thought I would summarize briefly in case the info helps (and in case someone has a suggestion).
My first beta was 8.0.265. I could rip with my primary CD-ROM (Lite-On LTN486 48x Max) but not in digital-secure mode (which was my preference, since it was the only thing that was completely reliable for non-pristine CDs under MJ 7.2). Digital-secure worked ok with my second drive (but past experience makes me not trust that drive).
I upgraded to 8.9.267 and the behavior did not change.
I upgraded to 8.9.272 and ripping didn't work at all. MJ started OK and seemed fine. When I inserted a CD and try to access it, I get the "gathering information, preparing display" popup but MJ then freezes. Every minute or so my entire system freezes for about 10 seconds. I couldn't terminate MJ and to resort to hardware reset.
I removed 8.9.272 and installed 8.9.265 (or 8.9.267). Now I don't get the freezing behavior, but ripping no longer works at all and I get a "failed to get track info". EAC still works just fine. Furthermore, my second drive now doesn't work at all, even reading standard data disks -- I suspect that this is a coincidence but I'm mentioning it anyway.
So it would appear that installing 8.9.272 resulted in something irreversible.
Naturally, I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
