Odd quirk - 'not responding'
« on: January 30, 2012, 09:55:50 am »

When I open MC 17 it works perfectly...If, however, I leave the program on but do not play music or use the program in any way for a few hours, the icon in the bar on the bottom of my windows 7 screen remains but the MC window disappears. If I left click the icon, nothing happens. If I right click on the icon at the bottom of the screen I get 'Media center', 'pin to task bar' and 'close'...If I click close nothing happens. If I do a 'control/alt/delete' and choose 'task manager', it says MC17 not responding. I can close the program from there...

Making it more perplexing, Gizmo works even though nothing else in the program does...

Is there a way to keep the program active even when it is not being used for a long period of time??

If you don't see any errors in the log. Try reinstalling.
I had an issue like that and installing was the only way I could fix it

Sadly, this is often quite normal for me. It's inconsistent and I haven't had the time to look into it carefully.

Seems like a security application problem to me, but who knows...

Is it a dedicated HTPC - meaning nothing else running on it? If so you should not have any other programs on it that could cause issue. I had problems with Microsoft Security Essentials. I deleted it and also removed all of Windows Media Center and Media Player. My system was much more stable after that. Also I no longer do Windows Updates. There's no reason to auto update on a functional computer that doesn't see the internet (other than metadata/cover art downlaoding).
Try going to Windows Event Viewer and see what Critical Errors are displayed (I'll bet you have a few). Good luck.

I've done what CountryBumkin has. Removed everything that is not strictly needed. It gives you a system that is much less likely to give you problems.

That may be a valid trouble shooting advice. However it's not safe to say avoid windows updates. As long as you using any internet. Nore is it acceptable to say the software must run on an island.

There is something the logs are missing that are causing issues. Personly I think it's crappy drivers on my tv tuner. But I'm the latest and other apps i've have not had problems. I'm ok with uninstalling and reinstalling for now. But that proves to me it's a jriver problem. So it would be nice to solve this. I can't complain to much since I have not triied everything I could. But that would be a lot more than I have time for.
