I'm curious what's the best way to come up with a library view that shows duplicate albums...

How are "duplicates" defined?  Two same-named albums with the same artist?  Same number of tracks?

Try Creating a Smartlist.  Paste this into the dialog opened via the Import/Export button:

   [Media Type]=[Audio] [Track #]=1 [Disc #]=<2 ~dup=[Album Artist /(auto/)],[Album]
