Cleaning Missing Media from Library?
« on: January 29, 2012, 06:48:25 pm »

Hey group,

I've been using Media Center for over a year now and getting along pretty well...

But in the beginning I used some unclean practices and did a good deal of file management outside of MC. Now I run into items in smartlists that don't exist on my hard drive anymore.

I'm wondering if someone can point me in the direction to clean up my mess.

I probably don't need hand-holding just a jump-start like try using 'x' feature in a view or try 'x' expression. If I'm screwed I could just ditch my library and re-import. My meta data is in great shape.

Thanks in advance!

In a file list view, sort by the little thumbnail icon by clicking on its column header.  Non-existent tracks will have a X icon.  Select those tracks, and hit the Delete key.

Alternatively, you can create a Smartlist that uses an expression IsMissing() to fill its contents.

Or search via the expression:

   [=ismissing()]=1

This is one of auto-import's jobs.

Be sure you have 'Fix broken links' set to 'Yes' and that Auto-Import is enabled.

Thank you both for your help!

ismissing() is the clue I needed. It is working great.

Matt: I'm not using auto import because I import in controlled batches and my media is stored on several drives that are usually sleeping. I may set it up correctly and give it another try. Thanks for the advice.

* glynor grumbles something unintelligible about not being able to use this because it'll remove his files from the library which live on external hard drives and which aren't always connected.

Any chance we can get some way to mark files on hard drives as Removable (like we used to be able to do) again?  I'm going to keep bugging you about this.  ;) ;D
