Web Remote, how does it work
« on: May 12, 2002, 06:17:43 pm »

I installed the web remote plugin, as this would be handy for controlling MJ via my LAN workstations, however there are no instructions for the plugin and when I type the url of the machine hosting MJ (http://192.16.1.2) all I get is 404

It's been a while, but I think you have to start the plugin's server.  It should be somewhere on the tree after the plugin is installed.

Go to the Plug-In Manager
Expand Interface
Select Web Remote
Press start

You should now see Plug-ins and Web Remote in the navigation tree.
Select Web Remote
In the right pane, press Start Server
If the port is 8080, then your URL would be http://192.16.1.2:8080/

It was the port that I didn't add to the address, thanks.

Well tried that, using port 8080, still got 404, but also I noticed there is no way of selecting the port in the plugin.  Do I need to the media server running for this work?

Yep, it's on the right pane when you select web remote from the navigation tree.  Right next to the "Start Server" button.  Don't forget, you have to do 2 starts.  One for the plug-in in the plug-in manager, and one for the server itself.

The fact that you're getting 404 means SOMETHING is running an http server on that port (8080 is a popular default).   Try setting the Web Remote config to 8091 (or some other random port) and try the URL again with the matching port.

Media Server does not have to be running, but if it is, make sure the ports don't conflict.

BTW a "netstat -a" at a command prompt will show you what ports are in use, though not what's using them.

Got it working, I had only started the plugin, and not the server it's self, many thanks for the help, it's a nice feature
