Video Bitrate Showing Correctly?
« on: December 22, 2011, 10:19:45 am »

I'm not sure if this is a Carnac issue or a problem with MC17 in general, but the bitrate field for video files now seems to be populated with the "Maximum bit rate" as shown in MediaInfo. In previous versions, the bitrate shown was much lower. While the value is correct, I think a more representative value would be "Overall bit rate" or plain "Bit rate".

I've listed a couple of examples from MediaInfo below:

File 1:
Overall bit rate                 : 10.4 Mbps
Bit rate                            : 9 786 Kbps
Maximum bit rate             : 38.3 Mbps

File 2:
Overall bit rate                 : 13.9 Mbps
Bit rate                            : 13.2 Mbps
Maximum bit rate             : 38.3 Mbps

Is it confirmed that MC17 shows the actuall video bitrate correctly?

I'm on v17.0.75 and MC shows in the "Bitrate" field what MediaInfo calls "Maximum bit rate" and what Windows Explorer calls "Total bitrate".

If we only have one bitrate field, I believe MediaInfo's "Overall bit rate" is more representative.

Maybe the best answer is to have both fields available?

Im trying to sort my movies after bitrate but I feel I can not trust the number at all.
For example here is  the result of one of my blu-ray movie:

MC17: 69560
BDinfo (scanned entire movie to get avrage bitrate): 30426
MediaInfo (Overall bitrate): 41.3 Mbps (max 48 Mbps)
