Topic: I need some help with my setup, please. (Read 2573 times)

Running Win7 with a Q9550, Nvidia GTX 550 Ti. Whenever I play a BD, the display switches to 1920x1080x32x24. When I'm done with the movie, all my other windows that were open (Win7, file manager, etc) are wider than the screen and I have minimize then max to have them display correctly.

My other problem I can't figure out...if I'm listening to music and want to switch to my "B" speakers in the garage and turn off my tv, MC stops playing. Sometimes crashing.

Really could use some help because I really want to continue using MC.

To change the display settings go to options>tree & view>full screen>resolution
Are your "B" speakers switched in MC as a zone or on an AV Receiver?

My speakers are just setup as A + B. Changing the tree & view setting didn't help. ?

What is the 24? frequency/frame rate?
What is you normal resolution? Is this a single or multi monitor/TV setup?
I realize your speakers are just setup as A + B but what I don't know is:
When you switch to play in the garage do you make a switch in MC or on a Receiver?

Presumably you have set up the display settings in Tools > Options > Video > Display Settings so that MC will select 1920x1080x32x24 for 23.976 and 24 Hz frame rate media and you have selected "Enable Automatic Display Settings changing". What have you chosen for the "Default (used when restoring display settings)"? This should be set to the resolution and frame rate which you normally use when not playing media. MC will switch back to this setting when you stop playing your Blu-Ray.

Correct and default is set to desktop resolution.

The switch is made on the receiver. My problem is when I shut off the TV "cause I'm not watching it, MC stops working. Most times when I turn the TV back on playback is locked and I have to hit stop, then play. Turn the TVoff, playback stops.

How is everything connected?
for example: (this is mine)
Computer HDMI out to TV (video only) (Zones 1 & 2)
Computer Optical out to Receiver (Zone 1)
Computer Analog out (5.1) to Receiver multi channel input (Zone 2)
Computer DVI out to 2 x 22" monitors (zone 3)
Computer headphone out to head phone amp (zone 3)

The reason I ask is I am guessing you are sending both audio and video out through HDMI and when you turn off the TV it is shutting down more than just the TV due to HDMI's 2 way communication that can shut down the inputs/outputs of connected devices if enabled.

Mine is pretty simple. One HDMI cable from the computer to the receiver (Pioneer VSX1021). One HDMI from the receiver to the TV. I appreciate you taking the the time.

When not playing anything try to turn off your TV and observe which devices disappear. Especially your HDMI audio device.
MC does not like to have an active device shut down while using it.

Look for a setting for HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) on your receiver and TV and turn it/them off.
Let us know if that makes a difference or if not found.

HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is turned off on my TV. What I don't understand is MC is the only player giving me the problem. TMT5, WMC, Media Monkey, etc, all play fine when I turn off the TV. TMT5 doesn't affect any open windows when switching resolution. Got to be some thing in MC settings?

I am at a loss. I would turn on MC's logging, get MC to crash and then send the log to matt at jriver dot com.

I think your Pioneer has some HDMI-CEC settings as well. That is the one telling your PC that devices are changing when you turn your TV on and off.
Will experimenting with those setting help you ?

I think this is the sound card driver crashing.

We had a similar issue where the Intel drivers on an H67 / i7 would tank when the HDMI power state changed while playing. A driver update from Intel fixed that problem.

You could also try a different audio output mode (DirectSound, for example).

Matt, I believe you are correct. I uninstalled the nVidia HDMI audio driver, used what win7 loaded on re-boot. When I turn off the TV the music plays in fast forward for a sec or two, then plays normal. The only one that works is Direct Sound. Is this the setup I'm stuck with? Any suggestions?

Do you have any other outputs from your PC ? I am thinking of S/PDIF coax or toslink from your soundcard ?
Is it possible to connect the TV directly from your PC ? My thought is to separate video and audio at the PC level. Then you could use HDMI directly to the TV and s/pdif to the Pioneer.
Or is it a must to use the video rendering in the Pioneer ?

Trying now to play a bluray just brings up the playlist. In earlier versions the movie would just start. Is there a setting that I'm missing? I don't/wouldn't use the playlist select feature. Just wanna watch the movie. Thanks.

Do all Blu-rays fail to play? Or just some?

If you're playing from the Blu-ray disc, do you have AnyDVD HD or equivalent installed?
