Calculated Field value inserted twice rather than once
« on: February 09, 2012, 05:24:38 pm »

I created two calculated fields to help in the renaming of documents.

[RenameDocs-Directory]   calculated data expression: =C:\Users\Lise\Documents\[Genre]

[RenameDocs-Folder]   calculated data expression:  [Main Folder]

The result is
c:\Users\Lise\Documents\correctgenre\correctMainFolder\RepeatofMainFolder\andthernamingrule
c:\Users\Lise\Documents\Woodworking\Finishing\Finishing\using epoxy.pdf

should be
c:\Users\Lise\Documents\Woodworking\Finishing\using epoxy.pdf

I can't figure out why the [MainFolder] field is being repeated. Can anyone provide a clue?

more info.

Seems that it is the base directory that is taking on extra information.

When I set the base bath to [RenameDocs-Directory] the result should be
c:\Users\Lise\Documents\Woodworking
but in fact it adds the \Finishing directory at the end of woodworking even when the Rule field is left blank.

I'm not sure how "finishing", which is the value of the Main Folder field is getting inserted when that rule is not being stated anywhere (ie when the "rule" field is left blank and only the base path is filled out)

I'm not positive I understand.

But what if you put c:\Users\Lise\Documents as the base folder and make the directory rule [Genre]\[Main Folder]?

This is more like the stock renaming rules like C:\Music with [Artist]\[Album] as the directory rule, so I wouldn't expect as much mystery.
