Hardware Acceleration?
« on: May 09, 2002, 05:53:17 pm »

I cannot figure out if MJ is using my SB Audigy's hardware acceleration.
I only use MJ for ripping my CD's and playing them back as MP3's
I have a 633mhz athlon and 256mb ram -
also, the SBb live audigy mp3 card that I got a wal-mart for about $90

The issue is.. when I used the software that came with the sb,  the hardware seemed to be decoding the MP3's
and the cpu usage was low.  Now that I have MJ (latest version)  It sits consantly at 100%

Is there a plugin or setting that will make it utilize the onboard hardware DSP to playback (and encode) ??

Thanks for helping out..and please forgive me if I overlooked this information somewhere...

I have set up the sb audigy gamer card for others with MJ on their systems.
try this... go to "settings" then chose "options" then find the "playback" tab.
under the "output" area there is a "device" named. usually the "wavemapper" works fine, but if you left click the down arrow you will also see your sound card listed in the drop down. try left clicking your sound card and then click the radio button. remember to shut down MJ and then restart it. See if this makes a difference. if it does, you need to acquaint yourself better with your sound cards setup through "Control Panel" of windows...
once you get that right, wavemapper (in the MJ settings) will be much better for playing under MJ as windows (and MJ) will know exactly what you want.
these guys at MJ can only do so much for "all" users, the rest is up to us.
Hope this helps...
remember MJ is trying to (and is) making a music solution for a myriadic complexity of machine diversities. (that sentence cost me $23 at the book store)

Also, I would recommend trying both WaveOut and DirectSound in MJ 8.  The DSP in the sound card drivers may only work with one of the two.

"for a myriadic complexity of machine diversities"

Yes, what he said Next Page

Take care.
