Multi-channel USB preamplifiers, do they work with MC
« on: March 12, 2012, 04:59:59 pm »

Products like this:

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackUltra8R.html

Would i be able to set up a multizone-solution via MC with a product like this? Do i need drivers from m-audio, or do they use generic drivers? The alternative is a multichannel soundcard, but I a bit scared of future driversupport.

USB audio works great. That unit you mentioned has the pre-amps on the mic inputs.

I use a Lynx Aurora D/A with USB input. It has enough output to drive a power amp to full power with no preamp.
I use JRiver internal digital volume.

I use a Steinberg UR824 with USB input. It works great.

You will usually need the drivers from the mfg. You can set one up as a multi-zone unit if it has multi-channel Direct Sound drivers. My UR824 only has stereo Direct Sound drivers, but it would let me map the stereo signal to 3 other zones. They would all be playing the same thing, though. It may work with ASIO, but then I'm not sure if you can output to more than one zone at a time. I'll test it tonight and let you know.
