Solving acces to library server on homenetwork
« on: March 16, 2012, 03:23:24 am »

I recently added a dedicated mediaserver to my homenetwork and transferred Mediacenter to it as DLNA server. Which worked fine locally but i couldn't access from the internet. All firewall/port settings where fine but it failed. Finally i thought to activate DMZ in my router to the IP address of the dedicated server. And it works fine now.

It may work, but it's certainly not a good solution. Situating a PC in the DMZ means it's fully exposed to the internet, making it wide open to all kinds of attacks.

Accessing your own machine(s) via the internet is only a matter of forwarding ports correctly, and configuring firewall(s) (Windows and Router) accordingly.
