How to go back to MJ 8 from MC 9
« on: March 16, 2003, 12:50:41 pm »

Hey guys-

I upgraded to MC 9 from MJ 8, and I want to go back to MJ 8.  I uninstalled MC 9.0 (registered), and after I reinstalled MJ 8, it gave me the error:

"You are attempting to open a database that is too new for this version of Media Jukebox.  Please upgrade to the newest version of Media Jukebox."

I bought a license for MJ 7; can this be used to upgrade to MJ 8?  If not, can my MC 9 license be used for MJ 8?

Thanks,

Mike Tschirret

MC9 makes changes to your library that are not compatible with MJ8. MC9 should have created a backup of your library when you installed it, so if it is there you should try restoring your library from that back up.

You need to use a current version of 8.0 when you install.  It can use a 9.0 license.

Early versions of 9.0 did not back up 8.0 data.  Later versions did.

This page has more info on both questions:

My question to "mtschirret' is why do you want to go back to Version 8 of Media Jukebox ... What don't you like about Media Centre?

I have Media Jukebox 8 & don't know if I should go to MC or not?

I have some prob's with MJ8 (as quite a few others till do) but, better the devil you know I suppose.

All the effort has gone into MC & left MJ still with problems & therefore incomplete (= not as close to perfect as it should be). Especially when so many of us have paid for it.
