Move my video...
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:01:15 am »

Hello,

I want to move my videos to another hard drive, but Media Center does not move cover art, subtitles, file JRSidecar.xml. Move only the video.

How do I move all?

Thanks,

Fabricio, from Brazil.

Library Tools > Rename, Move, & Copy Files will move sidecars when it moves a video.

Then use the same tool, but select the "update only" feature from the drop-down menu.
Specify the new location, ideally by just changing the drive letter path at first.
Then copy or move all your video folders to the new drive. Everything should work fine.

e.g. Moving from F drive to M drive, assuming all movies are in the subdirectory F:\Movies.
In Rename, Move & Copy Files, select Update from drop-down menu.
Uncheck the first two boxes, check Find & Replace.
Enter- F:\ to be replaced by M\:
Hit OK.

Go into Windows Explorer and copy or move the F:\Movies folder to the new M:\Movies location manually. From there you can do Rename, Move and Copy files using the rename option to make further modifications if necessary. Of course, the above filepaths are just examples-substitute whatever  need to apply to your files.

Fabricio just so you know the above is a typo:
Enter- F:\ to be replaced by M\:  should be Enter- F:\ to be replaced by M:\

You can also use the explorer tree in MC, and just drag and drop the directories I think. That should move it all, and update the locations for MC's media. As always, try it on a test directory first.

Thanks! I was typing that on the HTPC, with an irate wife looking over my shoulder, waiting for me to put on a TV show for us to watch! :)

+1 Thanks - you just reminded me of a way to do things that I haven't tried in a long time!
