Rebooting Compliments of MJ8 a REAL Pain
« on: May 07, 2002, 01:44:55 am »

Love the product but .......

At least 50% of the rips I do result in MJ8 rebooting my PC part way through the rip.  No warning, no imfamous blue screen, just reboot, sometimes up to three times in a row.  Same on my workmates PC who is also trying MJ8.  Only commonality is Win98SE and Command Anti Virus on both machines.

I want to buy MJ8 but must be able to rip reliably.

Any suggestions?

I too have similar problems & am also cursed with Windows 98SE.  I also have major memory leakage problems when using MJ8 ... Do you?

I have informed J. Rivers of these problems via this forum many, many times but to date have had no real success in having anything satisfactorily resolved.

I hope you fair better than I.

Bertinson and Rusty-

If it fails ripping a track, will it always fail ripping that same track? It's possible this is related to a track naming issue that has just been fixed. Try going to Settings/Options/File naming & location and change the file naming rule from:
ARTIST - ALBUM - TRACK# - NAME
to:
TRACK# - NAME

Then see if it rips ok. If this isn't it, please post your system information here (Help/System Info in MJ), and tell us which encoder and CD copy mode you're using. Also, does it behave the same with "Enable CDDB..." unchecked?

As to the memory leakage, what operations are you doing when the memory leakage occurs?
As to the ripping speed, on most systems MJ is about the same speed as MusicMatch in ripping. If you are encoding to mp3, MusicMatch will be faster only because it uses what most consider a poorer quality mp3 encoder.

Thanks,
John T.

Please use a subject that describes the problem.  "CD Ripping...."  It makes it easier for people to find help on their own.
