DSD DFF audio files are currently commercially available and the DSD DFF format is supposedly supported by MC17.

One of the companies offering DSD DFF audio files is http://bluecoastrecords.com/blue-coast-collection#

Questions:

1. I'm interested in user experiences of MC17 users related to DSD DFF audio files.

2. is DSD DFF sonically so much better i.c.w. WAV files (Bluecoastrecords offer the audio files both in WAV and DSD DFF formats)?

3. Are there any other suppliers of DSD DFF audio files on the market?

Looking forward to replies!

Regards,
Judith

They play, import, and tag just like any other files.

DSD is not better than PCM, just different.  Both can sound great.

As part of my own user experience project, I just downloaded 5 DFF audio files (a.k.a. DSD IFF files) at a bundle discount for just US$ 5.00 in total.
This bundle at a discount is offered at http://bluecoastrecords.downloadsnow.net/discount
I think that the discount offer is time limited, but I'm not sure of this.

Well, I can confirm that MC17 can handle this type of audio files without any hitch. And the audio files sound stunning. But most of the audio quality is due to the way they recorded the songs and processed it.

I am new to this area.

Could these files be played in the way like other PCM files (ie import and press play)? Do I need special settings? I am using ASIO output through a USB 2.0 cable to DAC for my PCM files.

They work like any other file.

Some DACs allow bitstreaming DSD (which JRiver supports), but I would ignore this unless you have an expensive DAC.

You may also have to configure DSP Studio > Output Format to resample the high samplerate DSD to something your hardware supports.  The program will probably offer to do this automatically the first time you play a file.

Thanks Matt for your prompt response.

I am using a Mytek DAC. I will give it a try tonight.

@Monteverdi

DFF audio tracks can be downloaded for free at: http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html

You can download the same audio tracks in other high resolution formats as well like WAV and FLAC to compare the audio files sonically.

Some of the tracks are musically very beautifull!!

Obviously, the albums of these tracks can be purchased.
