why cda and not mp3

when i burn a cd the ext is always cda and my media player will not play the cd.

how do i get my burns to give me a file ext of mp3 or anything but cda?

When you make an audio CD from mp3 files, they are converted to the format used by audio CD; the extension for that is .cda.  If you want them to stay mp3 files, you have to burn the CD as a data CD.
