Check out this brief article in the wiki.

Do it with a few files first, just to make sure it works OK.

Hi successfully copied the files, but they all appear now as individual songs rather than albums and artists albums are no longer grouped together . Any ideas where I have gone wrong. Can I also send nnew rips straight to the external drive without renaming. Cheers Chris.

It may just be how you are viewing them.  In Standard View, go to Audio then Albums.  Do your albums show here?  Go to Audio then Files.  On the fields header bar, click first on Artist then on Track # then on Album.  For all your album tracks, all of these fields should be populated.  Are they?

Hi nick,
Everything in mc is ok. What I meant is on the externa drive every song is individual. Did I need to designate a name on the external drive for everything to be sent to.

I'm not sure what has happened here.  Do you still have the original files in the original folder?

Take a look at this thread.  It may be helpful:

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=72037.0

I have seen this subject discussed elsewhere.  Two options were discussed, one using MC to move the files and one using Windows Explorer then updating MC to point to the new location.  The thread referenced above covers pointing to the new location.  One advantage of using Windows Explorer is that any files associated with the music files will also be moved whereas with MC, some may not.
