Cover Arts broken (working fine in MC16)
« on: January 23, 2012, 05:42:25 pm »

My first day with MC17 - right away I can see some of the covers are missing in my Cover Art view (Blu-ray ISO, DVD folders). Thought it could be related to special (Czech) characters in names, nevertheless even renaming to plain English (both Name and cover art name) does not help. I even let MC17 do its job (Clean cover art folder) and then tried all the naming variations = did not fix neither.
In MC16 no such problems at all...

How and where are your cover art images stored?

What is in the 'Image File' field in Media Center for the videos?

They are stored on mapped network drive in M:\__J._River_Media\Cover arts\

For ISOs it is "M:\__J._River_Media\Cover arts\Video - NAME.jpg", for DVD folders "M:\__J._River_Media\Cover arts\DVDVideo - NAME.jpg"
MC Options -> Cover Art -> In specified folder "M:\__J._River_Media\Cover arts\"

Does the 'Image File' field point to those files?

If you upgraded your library from v16 (instead of doing a fresh import), it should and everything will work as expected.

Going forward, there's a new naming system for cover art documented here:

Yes it does

I did simply installed MC17, started it, DB seemed to be OK (e.g. no manual import) except for those problematic covers

I did read the wiki already (and I believe I understand the news) and as I mentioned I tried to let MC17 "clean" e.g. restructure the Cover Art folder -> did not help. I also tried to move / rename the cover art files within this newly created structure and also renaming the ISOs -> no success.

If the cover jpeg files are there, and 'Image File' points to those covers, it seems like everything should work.

Could you explain what isn't working in a little more detail?  Thanks.

Hm this is interesting - I manually created a new Library in MC17 (named it the same as in MC16 and pointed to the same location), restored the library from backup created in MC 16 = all the covers are shown as expected now... (even with the old Cover Art folder structure)

Nevertheless I noticed another weird unpleasant thing - none of my Blu-rays (both ISOs and original discs) are recognized by the library e.g. when inserted they are shown as blank (with factory disc name only) having all the other fields empty... (MC16 has no problems)
DVDs and audio CDs are recognized just fine.

Is this a known issue? If not do I have to start another thread?

For movie cover art, make sure you have the latest build of MC (17.0.75 right now).

I tried latest 17.0.75 and it did not help = Blu-ray ISO images / original discs are not recognized by MC17 (no problems in MC16)

Do you have AnyDVD HD or equivalent installed?

Yes, I do have AnyDVD HD installed but it does not make any difference if I enable / disable it (for both scenarios MC16 recognizes the discs, MC17 does not)

Blu-ray discs not being recognized
« Reply #14 on: February 16, 2012, 10:23:29 am »

OK, just tried 17.0.089 and the issue (Blu-ray discs not being recognized) is STILL not fixed!  >:( What is going on here?
I asked several times if I am the only one experiencing this - no single response.
I provided all the important info (like "working fine in MC16"). What else do I have to do in order to get some (more) attention?
This one issue simply keeps me from trying and exploring MC17 (and consequently updating the Czech language translation) as I somehow do not have confidence in it just because of this issue...

I am having the same issue, Was working fine, then I changed my External drive and restored my files, changed auto import directory, ran auto import, most of my 1645 files now have missing cover art, tried all the suggestions from previous posts, still nothing, tried rebuilding libray from Tags (as the option to store the cover art in the tag is checked), nothing, tried quick find in cover art directory, still nothing, tried previous V16 cover art directory still nothing, I cant understand why some files have the cover art and other dont as I added all the cover art into media center myself and added to the cover art directory when adding to the file., I would have thought it would show all or none at all, all the cover art is in the directory, none of the file names have changed, I really can`t understand whats gone wrong, its taken years to get this as I wanted it, very peeved at the moment. Any help or guidence appreciated. All the tagging done previously is still in tact, just cover art is the problem.

This has only affected my Video files

17.0.89

OK I have just spent all day rebuilding my Movie covert art, is there an easy way to back up and restore in the future as its no fun doing one by one when the tools in the program DO NOT WORK......???

A useful tool would be to clean out the cover art folder and only leave the cover art being used. I am too scared to try at the moment as i`m not confident I won`t screw up again.

Regards

bump

Tried 17.0.125, still no change e.g. MC17 does not recognize already added (in MC16) discs and adds them as different movies.

I asked several times if I am the only one experiencing this - no single response.

I think this means it's not a common problem.

Sorry, but I don't know the answer to why it's adding ISOs again.  We recommend ripping to a BDMV folder instead to avoid ISO troubles.

Worse case would be to just let them import again.

You mean that MC does recognize if a movie is physical disc or virtual drive??

Anyway this happens to physical disc too e.g. in MC16 I loaded a physical disc of a blu-ray movie, filled the tag. Now if I load the same physical disc in MC17, tag is empty and in my library now I can see both the old one with tag filled, and the new one with tag empty.
FYI DVD discs seem to work fine.

As for the "worse case" I really do not want to re-import & re-tag all 255 blu-rays I have...

No change in 17.0.132.

Do you know what causes this? (apparently there is some change in your code which I am unable to trace myself)
Do you plan to explore / fix this?

If no & no I just need to know (I still wonder why am I the only one who is troubled with this issue)

Try the option for rebuilding thumbnails.  It's under Tools/Options/Tree&View/Thumbnails.

? thumbnails? The issue is MC17 does not recognize Blu-rays loaded & tagged in MC16.
