Multi-Select tagging issue?
« on: April 19, 2012, 01:59:03 pm »

I think this tagging issue has appeared in the last few versions.

This occurs in a list field. If I select multiple tracks (via lasso) then click F2 and choose the current value for the active track from the list, the rest of the tracks aren't updated with the selected value.

If I choose a different value, the rest of the tracks are updated.

If I type in the current value, the rest of the tracks are updated.

This is similar to this report:

Both the Action Window and the list should behave the same way.  We'll try to get this tightened up for a coming build.

Next build:
Changed: When in-place-editing multiple files with varying values, [Varies] will be shown like already done in the Tag Action Window.

Can you give me an update on this one?

.131 solved the problem, and then .136 broke it again.

A related multi-tagging issue: I click on a column link for an album, then left lasso the contents and right-click -> rename to edit. Only the active track is edited, and the other tracks are deselected.

It works properly if I click on a track before lassoing.

The change was quite unpopular and removed in 136:
Changed: When in-place editing in a list when the values vary, the first value will be placed in the edit control instead of [Varies].

For the lasso problem, I haven't been able to reproduce it.  Do I need to click in a certain spot, or keep the left mouse button down, or do something else special?

Thanks.

All this lasso talk made me look up that feature, named in the options "Allow list lasso with left mouse button". The left mouse button did not provide any lasso effect, but the right one did.

By default only right-button provides a lasso.

This is because the left-button lasso is often unintentional and foils users attempting to drag-n-drop.

There's an advanced option to enable left lasso (type 'lasso' in the options search box to find it) if you like it.

I wondered if that meant it had been switched back. Oh well.

When you click on one of the column link buttons, the new screen doesn't have any selected tracks.

You can lasso several tracks, but if you right-click them and choose rename it actually edits the top track on the page, regardless of what you have lassoed. This behavior is different than clicking F2, which operates as expected (editing the selected tracks).

I see. I did enable that option to try the lasso out. I had never before encountered the right click lasso and thought that it was necessary to enable that option to have access to the lasso effect.

It seems that a restart of MC is required for the change to take effect although I got an UAC prompt (in Win 7) when making the change. Perhaps the option should mention that a restart of MC is required?
