My scheduled recordings disapeared!
« on: May 03, 2012, 11:58:46 am »

Ok first my shows on Monday did not record and now my shows I scheduled to record next Monday are just gone, not the subscriptions but the manual record.  In drives and devices under television I went to the "to be recorded" section and the 3 shows I programmed to record were gone replaced by one different show.  I went to "Recording Rules" and the three rules were still there so I restarted MC and MC server and now the three rules are just gone all together.  Are my shows tonight even going to record?

Ok I found out what happened.  The EPG changed.  For some reason one of the earlier shows on that channel ended up being 3 minutes longer, very odd.  Along with that the show at 1am changed and a different show started at 1:03am.  So it took the original 3 shows off and put the one show that changed until I restarted MC.  So instead of show x at 10 pm and show y at 1 am remaining they are still in the EPG but at 10:03 am and 1:03 am.  Once I restarted MC it removed my rules for those three episodes all together just because the EPG got bumped 3 minutes back on that channel.

Now I am annoyed.  The manually scheduled shows for Monday late night got pushed back a couple of minutes again and the manual recording rules were deleted again.  This really needs to be looked into.

Please email me this file from your library folder:

C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 17\Library\tvrecording.xml

and give me some details on what happened, like what show did you schedule to be recorded, at what time, and what happened later etc.

Are you using MC on a stand-alone unit, or in a client-server setting?

It's on a stand-alone system.

I emailed it to you.  It looks like one show is not even on the EPG anymore (I blame Dish) and the other show looks like it is now auto recording because a subscription even though it played earlier that day and I canceled that recording due to a conflict.

It is interesting that the manual recording rule was removed when the shows got bumped back a few minutes.  This is the second week in a row this happened to the same show.  Dish Network must not like me :-\ .

Just to clarify, by "manual recording rule", did you mean selecting a program in Theater view and choose "Record" button (as opposed to "subscription")?

Correct.

I've missed a few episodes of a show while trying to get my analog stations working and they all play again on Mondays.  I manually chose several to record and a couple were at 10pm and later.  That show plays the same time as another analog show and since I can only record one analog show at a time (for now) I canceled the recording at 8 and manually selected the 10pm showing to record since I was not sure if the 10pm would automatically record after canceling the 8pm episode.

If you cancel a subscription on a day, it probably will not record again on the same day.  The behavior of subscription from Theater View is to record "one per day, near HH:MM" where HH:MM is the time of the program you selected from the guide.  In Standard view, under Drives & Devices, you may be able to change the behavior, by selecting "Configure Recording".  You can then select a different time schedule, such as "All showings".

So you were right to try to schedule a recording at a different time after canceling a subscribed recording.

The problem you had with the "manual recording", or one-time recording based on program, is that the guide had changed.  When we schedule a recording of such type, we simply save the program ID.  We then use the program ID to get all other info, such as channel, start time, duration, etc.  If the guide had changed, the program ID may have become invalid.  We no longer can record it.

Ok that makes sense.  I wondered why if the show was bumped back by only a few minutes it canceled the recording but if the program ID changed then I understand.

I always edit my subscriptions to record all but only first runs so if the time/day changes then I dont miss a show.  Did the one at 10:04 decided to record automatically because of that rule and the 8pm one was manually canceled?

I believe it should.  Canceling one show would not cancel other shows.

If you checked "Do not record program that have been recorded in the past...", then the same show will not be recorded if it have been successfully recorded in the past.  It will record the second appearance if the first is canceled.

If you checked "Do not record reruns", then the show may still be recorded when it is shown again in the same day after a cancellation.  If the second showing of the program is on a different day, you will miss it, since it will then be considered "rerun".
