I am glad you trust your own ears. That's all what counts. 24/192 may be better in theory, but since standard 16/44.1 Red Book audio can reproduce a 96 dB dynamic range and frequencies up to 22 kHz without audible distortions it is already good enough for our hearing capabilities.
The so called HD versions are often mastered well and they sound excellent, but the same mastering could be stored in the 16/44.1 format without practically sacrificing the audible quality.
Assuming you use an output mode that bypasses the Windows mixer (WASAPI, ASIO or Kernel Streaming), the displayed output information is correct. MC does not resample or reduce the bit depth if it is not set to do so.
