Drag folder to playlist creating folder name like iTunes?
« on: June 30, 2012, 09:29:09 pm »

How can I drag a folder from the explorer to automatically create the filename from the folder name like the way iTunes does?

I can't seem to find this option.

Welcome.

If you want to rename files, try Library Tools > Rename, Move, & Copy Files...

If you want to create playlists, try dragging files to 'Playlists' in the tree or use the Action Window > Build Playlist.

Does that help?

Hi Matt,

I know how to rename files and create playlists.

All I want to do is drag a folder from explorer to playlists which in turn auto creates a playlist from the folder I just dragged over. If you have iTunes fire it up and drag a folder to the playlists bar and you will know what I mean.

Here's an example:

Media Center...

Explorer> Right click folder > Send to...> Playlist > Create playlist

Then I have to name the new playlist for each folder album I want as a playlist

iTunes...

Drag folder to playlist - which creates new playlist automatically with folder name.

The iTunes method is so simple and easy and would be a very useful addition.

Bear in mind that, unlike iTunes, playlists are a secondary means or organization in MC. The file must still be imported into the Library. And it would seem in this case, importing those folders as albums would make the corresponding playlists redundant (although you could still create them if you wish).
