Hi

I've been very succesfully using Loopback to play Spotify and other material from outside J River MC. Up to now I have been outputting to my Receiver with  5.1 anaogue cabling but I wanted to try using SP/Dif.

Everything is fine if the unconnected internal audio output I use as the source for the loopback is set as Stereo. The audio is then output by J River through my Asus Xonar  optical output as 2 channel PCM.

Where I run into issues is that I have a lot off multichannel source material.

If I want to play this within J River MC I know I can use the Output surround sound in Dolby Digital format option and it works fine but if I set the loopback source to 5.1 channels and try to use dolby encoding  the output is competely broken up.

I also find if I have the loopback source set to 5.1 and set the output in DSP Studio to 2.0 without using Dolby I get a very strange slow motion effect to the sound.

I don't have these issues if I use the 5.1 analogue outputs.

Any thoughts?

Welcome.

The loopback stuff is a little touchy about buffer sizes since it works in a special low latency mode. 

Does it help if you reduce the buffering in Options > Audio > Output mode settings...?

Adjusting the buffer size cause the break up to change but not go away.
 
I wouldn't say any one setting is really better than another.

I could imagine that the Dolby Encoding would introduce latency.

I can reproduce it not working too well when it's encoding to Dolby Digital for output.

For now, I think this is just a limitation of our loopback system.

With that said, I'm hoping to come back to loopback / line-in in the not too distant future and fix the rough edges like this and make the features easier to find and use.

For now its not a game-ender for me as I can work round it.

I have to say it is a great feature in really good product.
