File errors in APE and others???
« on: April 29, 2002, 10:44:52 am »

I have been ripping my C.D. library to APE and noticing that a bunch of the songs will not play fully. Get into the song an MJ comes up with an error and then closes. I use the verify function in the Monkeys Audio encoder, and the same files are not verified as correct. If I am doing a defrag or other disk cleanup stuff, will the files become screwed, or is there a problem while I am doing the rip and encode from within MJ7 and 8? It is not happening always and only some songs on a disk. No scratches, etc. and using digital secure, rip and encode. Approx 80 files out of 1000. Thanks for the help.

Yes, update everything. (to MJ 8, Monkey's Audio 3.96)

Also, a lot of people with failing RAM, faulty motherboard pieces (VIA bridge is a biggie) and overclocked machines have had problems with APE files becoming corrupted.  Digging around on the Monkey's Audio board might give more clues.

Take care.
