I have been using Gizmo to control my HTPC for some time, and I love it. Now I'm considering doing the same on other computers around my house as well. Would you say there are any reasons not to do this on your "main" computer? (The one mainly used for personal documents, banking, VPN access to workplace etc, you name it...)

Or would you call that paranoid?

It's impossible for most of us to place any meaningful security metric on these highly complex systems.  So you have to go with best practice rules of thumb and accept these things require a personal risk/reward analysis, where risk assessment degenerates to the simple "what's the worse case scenario should xyz happen, and what is the cost of recovery?".

In this case, use of your own browser is probably orders of magnitude more risky than enabling DLNA or sharing your library.

We've made every effort to prevent sharing of anything not in the library.

There's never been a security issue discovered, and if one is found, it will be fixed the same day.

I personally run a Library Server that's open to the public.
