2 channel audio - pcm and DD 2.0 playback problem
« on: July 21, 2012, 08:30:17 pm »

My DAC (Musical Fidelity M1DAC) supports PCM and FLAC just fine, but will not handle Dolby Digital 2.0 on my 2 channel system.

System: Assassin HTPC>MIDAC>McIntosh MX113>McIntosh MC225.

This is a real problem when ripping Blurays (majority do not have PCM, but do have some form of DD).

I'm using MakeMKV for ripping blurays.

Is there any way to get the DD to convert to PCM inside JRiver?

1. You need to make sure bitstreaming is turned off. (options>video)
2. Under option > audio you set channels to stereo and downmixing in mixing

in doing so MC will output 2.0 pcm and in case a DD audio track is selected is will downmix and send 2.0pcm to your dac.

Glad I could help. If now the industry would just provide a multichannel DSD (SACD) compatible DAC which is affordable it would be heaven...nice McIntosh Combo...

Thanks - yep that 45 year old MC225 is so sweet - Musical Fidelity, JRiver, and Assassin makes it awesome
