So many albums are re-released (often numerous times) as remasters or with additional tracks it would be really helpful to have two tags for dates so you could see both the original release date for the album plus the release date of the new version(s).

You can do this yourself, just create a custom date field like I did:
"Date" / "Date: Release" - original release date of the album (I have copies of my main fields (name, album, date, etc...) to make sure data does not get changed)
"Date: Version" - release date of the re-released album
normally when displaying albums I use an expression
[Date: Released] - [Album] [[Date: Version]]
1980 - Some Album [Remastered] [2012]
I also have several other date fields:
"Date: First Appeared" - mostly used for compilation albums, I put the date when the song first came out
"Date: Recorded" - mostly used for live performances

This is of course possible (and I have such a custom field for date recorded/performed as well and I am contemplating on adding an additional field for Date first released as single, for tracks on compilation or VA albums). But unfortunately this does not work well with other software that adheres to the ID3v.2 standard and uses the tags I mentioned. The Logitech Media Server that I use for playback is one example.

Can you be more precise on this point ?
What's the difference between MC17 and MC18 as regards DSD / SACD support ?
