TV Tuner app slows my computer to a crawl. Picture is choppy and both Processors near 100%!
Runs fine through ATI Multimedia Center. TV card is ATI TV-Wonder PCI. Downloaded latest drivers, and a window came up saying that I need DirectX 8.0 Capture drivers. Downloaded that but couldn't install them, it said that the drivers were only for Win 98/ME/2000??
Help!!!

Try using IE and Tools/Windows Update to get updated DirectX.

If you try searching for a driver for TV Wonder on ATI site, you will only get a link to ATI MultimediaCenter 7.1. Is this what you mean when you said "downloaded latest drivers"?

Do you have DirectX 8 installed?

Yes. I have MMC 7.6 on my system for DVD playback, etc. but I DL'd 7.1 for the ATI-TV card, and installed only the TV app, but also all the drivers. TV playback with MMC 7.1 is fine. DX 8.1 is installed.

I will need more time to figure what is going on. Meanwhile, please see if you can change the video format with which you are viewing TV. I am guessing you are using WDM driver. If this is the case, you should see in the "Options" submenu (by right-clicking in the video area) items like "Video Prewiew Pin...", or "Video Capture Pin ...", and change some settings there if they are available.

Because my computer basically shuts down when it's need 100% CPU usage (it takes several minutes to just "stop" the playback of TV) I can't really try different settings without it taking an eternity. I tried one, and it just crashed MJ8. As far as I can tell, I can't set any settings without the TV "Playing". (You should change that!!)

Besides, I haven't a clue what any of the settings mean anyway. You'll need to lead me through this somehow.

If so, and you still can't get to settings, try deleting this key from the registry:

Thanks for the registry tip, Jim. I was always able to get at the settings, I was merely complaining that they are only available (as far as I can tell) from a right-click on the window while the TV tuner is in "Watch" mode. IMHO, The settings should be available from the "Options" menu like everything else in MJ.

I adjusted one setting that had a frame rate set to 0.08. Setting it to 29 seemed to help.

Those settings are so complicated, that there should be a wizard or something to lead you through them, and they should be set the first time you fire up the TV viewer, along with the country, antenna/cable, capture device, etc.

Don't know really what I did to make it work, but it does work now.

Please try the latest build of MJ 8.0.265. Your problem should have been fixed in this build.

Please delete the TV Settings registry key (see JimH's post above) so you will have a clean start. let us know whether it works

The same problem was found on Hauppauge WinTV card before. It should have been fixed now.
