YADB/CDDB look-up fails
« on: February 28, 2003, 06:54:04 am »

Hi ... I have  intermittent problems with finding Artist Information via YADB (and CDDB for that matter).   Most of the time .. 90% or better ... it works fine.  What to do in those cases when it fails?

Other media programs, including WinAmp, Real, and Windows Media, are able to find the artist information when Media Jukebox fails ... so it's not the disk, or my net connection or anything like that.

Is there a way to ask for a "retry" or to ask Media Jukebox  to find the artist information  (based on the user providing album or artist info) when it fails?

thank you!

you just might need to type it in.

when you do Submit it to YADB.

=======================

There was a bug fix in MC9 today, don't know if there is a problem in MJ8 with the YADB code but if there is maybe they will update it.

Also I have 2 other issues that have come up.
1. My CDDB or Yadb do work when I insert CD.
And not having to type in info for cddb is the reason
for simplicity and not havinng to type in info.

2. I cannot get music to transfer from MC9 to my Nomad3.

What do need to do? Also if this helps I am running
Windows media 9 & Creatives Play Ctr.  Now I know I need to pick certain file type to associate to each program but I like certain featues on each so I would like to keep each. Which files should I associate? Or Do I need to stick with 1 player?

thanks, I will try the update and see if that does the trick.

Other programs have the ability to "force" the look-up.  I guess Media Jukebox does not have the same feature.  Too bad, otherwise I am thrilled with MJ.

I found it ... go to CD & Handhelds, right click on the icon for the CD player, and select UPDATE FROM CD DATABASE.

(Sure do wish that this was someplace in the HELP files.)

Submit is hard to find also, when not found MC should pop up a UI and ask the user to fill in the info, then submit it (Like CDDB).

Most users can't find it and the only reason some know about it is

1. they work for J River.
2. we have no life.

I agree with your suggestion ... hopefully someone from J River is checking the boards.

And I guess I fall into category 2 ....  :-/

I too have quite a number of CDs that YADB doesn't find but I know are out there in databases as other programs find them.

For example:

The Cars - Panorama
Styx - Paradise
Styx - Pieces of Eight
Foreigner - Four
Beach Boys - Endless Summer

and lots and lots of others both old and new.

I'm currently running 8.0.393 (free download).
