Send To... Squeezebox via Whitebear
« on: August 11, 2012, 05:48:29 am »

I have tried before to send music from MC to my Squeezeboxes via Whitebear but never got it to work reliably, despite extensive support from Andrew and MrC. I thought I should try it again since I really want this to work, and I have seen that both Whitebear and MC made progress in this area.

The issue now: The track is sent to my Squeezebox but nothing is played. This happens with both mp3 and flac.

I attach screen shots of the LMS web interface, the MC media network settings and Whitebear status.

MC is 17.0.183 running on Win 7 64 bit
LMS and Whitebear are running on a Win XP PC on the same LAN
LMS is  the latest 7.7.3 (1336728576)
Whitebear is the latest 2.4.0.2890 - I use the default settings in Whitebear.

A log file from Whitebear (all logging options enabled) when I tried to send a file to Squeezebox is attached.

I can setup your same environment and test this if you'd like, with XP as an LMS/SBC server, Whitebear server and Win 7 w/MC.

Thank you for the kind offer, MrC. I think, however, that we should wait a bit and see if Andrew can tell anything from the log or has other ideas. I just posted in the Squeezebox forum as well, http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?90842-Announce-Whitebear-Media-Server-v2-2-Released&p=712700&viewfull=1#post712700.

A log file from Whitebear (all logging options enabled) when I tried to send a file to Squeezebox is attached.

I looked at your log file, and on a very superficial level, it appears that all the UPnP transactions are occurring as they should be; but one odditity is that for your "Girl from Mill Valley" Mp3 track, MC lists the duration = 4 minutes 52 seconds, size = 7244294 bytes (giving bit rate = 198 kbps) {=> Can you please confirm this data is correct?} but the track appears in the LMS web UI with duration = 4 seconds and bit rate = 11776 kbps -- so obviously something is getting lost "in translation" (!!). I think the problem could be because your computer has European (Swedish?) date and number settings (e.g. comma vs. decimal point) and so Whitebear may be converting between values and strings using the wrong delimiters (it could be that Whitebear talks with Swedish settings whereas LMS only talks American...). => Can you perhaps try briefly changing your computer number settings to US and see if that imnproves things? (If so, then I will make a new build of Whitebear to eliminate this problem).

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, the problem seems to be that LMS reports that the track is only a few seconds (it varies with some seconds depending on which track I send).

MC reports that the mp3 file is 3:50 and 196 kbps (it is VBR encoded). The file size in Windows explorer is 5,751 kB. I do not know where you get your data from, the log file(?).

Both PCs are set to Swedish (that uses comma as the decimal point and a space as a thousand separator). I set both PCs to English (US) instead but the result was the same. EDIT: I did not reboot or restart the software. Is that necessary?

I did not change the LMS language setting when testing. It was still set to Swedish.

It would certainly be necessary to stop Whitebear and then restart it. But rebooting the PC is probably not necessary.

OK, I set the language setting of both PCs to English (USA) and set LMS to English. I then restarted Whitebear (but nothing else). The result was the same.

Thank you for trying this.

The next step is that I will make a test build of Whitebear attempting to fix what I think the problem may be. And I will send you a PM with a link where you can download it.
