When MC18 Does Appear
jack wallstreet:
I just can't stands it no more. I have to comment about some of the comments concerning the release of MC18
I am repeating what others have said, but maybe it will help our new users.
MC is designed and released in a very unusual manner. Builds are released as often as once a week. Who else does that? Then, as soon as it is fully stable and mature and features are locked down, a new version is built. When a new version is released, it is immature and it takes about a year before features are locked down and all the (mostly minor) bugs get out. That is the way it is. That is the expectation and understanding of all of us who have been around awhile.
Jim was kind enough to say that it would be awhile before MC18 was released. You can buy it later if you want. The current version MC17 has ONLY NOW been finalized. It is VERY current; it is not "old".
If people don't know the development cycle and the way the product is released, it can take awhile to get used to it, but JRiver is very consistent and all of us who have been around understand and expect that is the way it works. There are many benefits (and some problems) from that approach, but that is the way it is and has been.
Those of use who buy this produce want the new version and choose to support this company and its prodcuts because there is none other like it and we want the company and its products to stick around.
And when MC18 is released, there will be issues. It probably will be mostly stable, but there will be issues. If people aren't prepared for that, then wait until later in the development cycle when JRiver and the Interact board make it clear that you aren't likely to have issues. Again we get the benefit of early release if we want it, but we take some risk of frustration with bugs. It is our choice.
Okay, I have repeated what others have said, but hopefully this is helpful for our new users. It is worth it. And this company is responsive like no other.

That is an excellent summary. Thanks, Mr. Wallstreet.

Yup! They're eating brats. This euphoria must last them all year.
Good Job JR Team. Keep it up and more brats are in your future (along with World Peace).
