DSP and bit depth settings
« on: September 09, 2012, 11:40:31 am »

Running either WASAPI (push) or WASAPI-EVENT(pull), both set to exclusive mode...

I like running the Headphone crossfeed DSP and am wondering if it makes any difference to have the software output to 24 bit when playing back 16 bit recordings? My DAC handles up to 24/96 so either way it's doable I'm just wondering if the headphone DSP applied to a 16 bit source would result in any dropped/truncated info if output is set to 16 bit vs. 24 bit?

Likewise (I think?) if I'm listening to 24 bit recordings is the DSP causing dropped bits when output bit depth is set to 24?

It's always best to talk to the hardware using the most bits it supports (often 24-bit).
