Is it worth increase the max # of conversions from 4 to 8?

(1/1)

jmone:
I'm redoing my "MP3 Library" so I can sync to other devices (set up a folder as a HH), and the max conversions you can do is 4.  Is it worth bumping this to 8 as my CPU utilisation runs around 55% and according to windows the Disc Activity peaks at no more than 35MB/Sec (so this does not look constrained either).

Matt:
The regular 'Covert Format' feature does support 8 at a time.

I don't see any reason not to allow the same for the handheld stuff.

However, I wouldn't expect a big speed-up.  Each conversion already uses more than one thread, and your CPU probably only has four real cores (so using the extra cores will help speed a little, but not 2x).  So it's probably disk bound (writing multiple files at once is often much slower than writing one continuous file).

jmone:
Yes - only 4 real cores.  Thanks for the explanaion.

Matt:
Next build:
Changed: Options > Handheld allows running up to 8 conversions at a time (the previous limit was 4 at a time).

jmone:
Wow, that was quick!
