How to have a ripped CD replace current files?
« on: September 16, 2012, 02:24:54 pm »

Hello all,

My music library become corrupted recently but thankfully I have the CDs. By "corrupted" I mean for some reason, the files got split or in some instances won't play at all. However, the tag information is just fine.

When ripping a CD, the program correctly identifies the information, but it creates new files, such as:

Artist/Album/01-Song.mp3 (the bad file I don't want, already in the library)

Artist/Album/01-Song-01.mp3 (the file I just ripped)

Is there a way to automate this process? By this I mean a notice or dialog box indicating there is a file with the exact same structure (same artist, same album and name) and whether I would like to replace it. Of course, there are audio files with the same name (examples: live albums, different rendition by another artist) but want to specify it for a ripped CD.

By the way, I have been a user of Media Center for years, but stopped using it when I got a Mac. However I got tired of the crappy audio manager options and installed VMware Fusion just to have my media library up to date as it was before!

Would this help?

Options > CD, DVD & BD > CD Ripping > File Management > Overwrite existing files that have the same name

The opinions I express represent my own folly.

It does, thanks!

Migrating to MC 12 to 17 was quite the pleasant experience!
