Puzzled why MC 17 starts as read-only

Feel I should know this, but can't figure out why the program starts up as read only. The Win 7 media files themselves are not read-only, only shaded blue. Would appreciate any clues, as I can't preserve libraries as I would like them.

Welcome.
This could be a folder permissions thing, so try making a new library in a folder you know you control.
Also, double-check that party mode is not engaged in the 'View' menu.
