17 + 18 Installation?

<< < (2/3) > >>

Trumpetguy:
I did a standard installation, and both 17 and 18 works fine. MC18 imported every aspect of my 17 settings automatically, so installing 18 was as painless and quick as installing a new build of 17. I worked out all by myself that using different skins would be a good idea.  ;)

csimon:
Can MC18 connect to library servers of MC17?  (i.e. can a new release of MC connect to the library server of an older release?) Or is there no guarantee of that sort of backwards-compatibility? Obviously DLNA connectivity between two releases should still work.

audunth:
Does MC 18 convert the library or use the same library as MC 17?

Version 18 makes a copy of the v17 library and uses the copy.

This means v18 won't cause trouble with v17.

It also means you'll need to manually configure it (again) if you want to keep your library in a special location.  However, do not share a library folder between v17 and v18 -- it could lead to problems.

To be clear, if we imported our MC17 library into MC18 by pointing it to the folder, we need to then point the MC18 version of the library to a new folder in order to avoid problems? (I assume these problems only arise if actively using the libraries in the this shared folder via both MC17 and MC18?)
