Custom Fields Are Empty After Loading a View That Contained Them

I've had this problem before and was never able to resolve it.

Some time ago I added a custom field (call it New Field) to Library 1 and populated  it.

Yesterday, due to a problem with Library 1, I created Library 2 and imported my files into it without problems. Library 2 does not contain New Field.

When I reloaded Library 1, New Field was listed but was completely empty.

Is there any way I can "import" the New Field .JMD that I found in a previous backup into Library 2?
