In Playback options there is the setting for Direct Sound or Wave Out.

Whats the difference

Also whats with the options of More Skip resistance or more responsive.

I would like an expanation as to the differences - If there is any.

Wave out is reliable.

Currently drinking a mix of last night's leftovers. What used to be called, in my college years, Kickapoo Joy Juice.

Thanks for the really technical answer. - Not.

Personally i would really like to know what the difference is.

Being a Techie - Once i know what the difference is i can usually convince myself what sounds better.

PS .254 is doing the Biz.

It's just two different ways to play sound under Windows. DirectSound (DirectX) is newer, but WaveOut is, as Jim said, more reliable. The sound quality is identical unless your sound card drivers do DSP.

Also, the performance slider indicates the "immediate" buffering. You want it to be as responsive as possible without getting skips. (more responsive means faster kick-in of DSP's, fades, and smooth seeks)
