I'm having trouble with playing video files from MC (17.0.186) DLNA server on my LG smart tv.

Audio and jpeg images work fine but when I access any video files MC crashes and the tv displays a "device is disconnected" error.

I have a NAS that has a DLNA server and the same video files work fine when streamed from there to the TV.

Any suggestions?

I assume you are using the TV remote to get the files from MC?
What build of MC are you using?
Are you using the stock generic DLNA server in MC?
Is the PC connected to the internet so it can download the current video encoder files?
Can you try turning off video conversion in Media Network->Options->Add or configure DLNA servers->(choose the server)->Video Conversion: Never Convert
and see if that prevents the crashing (the files still may not play on the TV).
What are the video containers and codecs of the files you are trying to play??

Yes I'm using the TV remote
MC build 17.0.186 stock DLNA server
PC is connected to the internet
Turning off video conversion did not stop the server crashes
I'm not very knowledgeable on containers v codec but I've tried just about every video format I have: DVD vmgi; blu ray .bdmv; quicktime avc1 and mpeg4

As an additional piece of info: if I use Gizmo to route the video files to the TV (by passing using the TV remote) I get the same result i.e. server crash.

Are the files you are trying to play stored locally on the PC or otherwise (on the NAS, SMB server, etc)?

The files are on the PC HDD. 

I copied a few to the NAS to test the DLNA from there which was successful

We fixed the crash (it's because the TV rejects the video) but we'll need more info on why the device isn't taking your video.
You could try setting the video mimetype override in the advanced settings and change the DLNAType flag to MPEG_PS_NTSC or MPEG_PS_PAL depending on your location.
Also make sure DLNAExtra is on in advanced.

Sorry for the delay I've been away for a couple of days.

I've updated the setting as suggested - things are a little different:
AVI/dvsd files & blu-rays ripped with MC come up as "file invalid" but no MC crash
DVDs ripped with MC have the original problem i.e. "device is disconnected" and MC crash
I have found that WMV/WMV3 files play OK

Is there a version of MC17 available that includes the crash fix yet?

Will send you a link to a test version in a PM.
I'm most interested in whether or not that prevents crashes.
Will you also try the files with video conversion set to "never convert" then set to "always convert"?
Report back the results, please.

Here's the summary

Never Convert:
Ripped Blu ray "file invalid"
Ripped DVD "device disconnected" & MC crash
AVI2/dvsd "file invalid"
H.264/AAC_HAAC "file invalid"
WMV/WMV3 - plays OK

Always convert:
Ripped Blu-ray "device disconnected" but no MC crash
Ripped DVD "device disconnected" but no MC crash
AVI2/dvsd plays audio but no video
H.264/AAC_HAAC plays audio but no video
WMV/WMV3 "device disconnected" & MC crash

The beta version has resolved the crashes.  The files that don't play now all show the "file invalid" error.

Some progress:

I changed the video encoder setting to MPEG2/DVD from the previous (default?) setting of MP4 720P.

With "always convert" set the videos all now play.

Success of sorts - I'm passed the original problem but the videos are still unwatchable.  They play for about 30 seconds then restart.  They then play for about 10 seconds and restart again - then just keep looping on a 10 sec cycle.  I seem to remember others having similar issues with DLNA playback.  I'll search for some other relevant posts.

Interesting.
The default should have been MPEG2/DVD which is supposed to work with all DLNA video renderers.
Are you in PAL land? If so you should do MPEG2/DVD PAL Stream instead.

Yes I'm in UK so PAL.

I've just removed the mpeg video mimetype override and things seem to be running more smoothly - no restarts yet.  I'll need to run a few things over a reasonable period before confirming.
