Can't seem to get PCM to work...
« on: October 11, 2012, 08:34:03 pm »

I'm using the trial of the software, and am considering using MC17 over XBMC.

I can't seem to figure out how to have the software decode the audio tracks to Multichannel PCM.

Here's my setup:

JRiver MC17 on HTPC, connected with HDMI to my Onkyo 803.

I can bitstream multichannel PCM from XBMC...

What am I missing?

BTW... it will output DD/DTS streams without a problem.  For some reason, the PCM sounds more clear...

You're on the right track doing PCM instead of bitstreaming.  It allows you to fully leverage the goodies in the JRiver audio engine.

To get it going, you might work through this guide:

Thank you for the quick response Matt.

Here's what I've done:

Set Audio Output to: WASAPI - Event Style (ASIO doesn't work)
Gone to the DSP engine - Set to 5.1 channels, 24bit depth, left it checked.

When watching a movie, (Cars for example) I *DO* get audio.  My receiver gets the DD/DTS stream from the movie.  I'm trying to get MC17 to output Multichannel PCM to my receiver, not an encrypted audio stream.

I've searched this site extensively, yet cannot seem to find the setting that allows this to happen...

Options>Video>Bitstreaming

Turn it off, or just off for the formats you want to send as PCM.

Thank you very much!  Worked like a charm.  I hadn't thought to look in the video settings for this...

So now that I'm properly sending PCM to my receiver...  Should I enable room correction in MC17?  I currently have the receiver doing it, but I'm not sure if it applies room correction to PCM data...  I also have the option of enabling room correction on my hardware audio device...

I have found that if you let the software do as much of the grunt work as you can the results are spectacular...

If you are not bitstreaming to the receiver to decode the stream, then the room correction that your receiver uses will not be utilized.

Setup the room correction in MC and reap the benefits...

I'm not familiar with Onkyo receivers so I wouldn't know how it works with room correction and other DSP options and whether or not you can bypass it for certain inputs. What you need to keep in mind I think is that if you want to use MC for room correction, your receivers' room correction should be disabled for the input you're using.

I just went through the same thing but over analog outputs. Shouldn't be much different though. Have a look here.

Holy Crap!  That's perfect!  My next step for my setup, is either Essence ST + H6 OR X-Meridian 7.1 2G!

You guys are awesome!
