Author Topic: Keeping yourself covered by keeping a few recent builds on hand...  (Read 1077 times)

If you check the page at ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/ you'll see by the file date if a new one is available.  The new builds always have the same filename so old links will always get the latest version. If you want to keep back releases, rename the file when you download it so you can tell which it is.

Example: Save as - (2002-04-17)_8.0.251--MediaJukebox8.exe  The prefix before the official filename shows the date it is released and the build number; the '--' separates the prefix from the original filename.  I have most every build release since May 2001 this way.

Keep a backup of at least one or two past releases on hand so you can reinstall an older one in case we happen to get a stinker like 8.0.250 was.

Faith keeps me strong,
but so does my extensive archive of beta builds...

Still reckon 8.0.175 was one of my favourites...

P.S. almost midnight on this side of the pond... is there a new build tonight?
Surely the J River staff want to get it up on the ftp so they can go home for dinner (or fast food)?

JimH - It seems that faith dictates one type of behavior while experience sometimes dictates another.  Along with the good advice of "Save, and save often", keeping a few backups can also be a good practice.

Others - If you had checked the link I posted at the beginning of this thread, you'd see the file there has today's date on it.  It was already there when I first posted this.  I thought I'd let the cat out of the bag quietly, but I didn't think it was THAT quietly.

They are thinking of renaming it, to "Media Toaster, Version 1.0.000"

or "Media Toaster Pro" for the Plus version
