Crackling Noise During Streaming
« on: January 14, 2013, 12:06:45 am »

Firstly thanks to the MC team on an awesome product. After directly connecting my notebook with MC18 to my Bel Canto and configuring the parametric EQ to correct for some room anomalies the improvements and result were jaw dropping.  I have been a constant annoyance to my friends for the last few days harping about this product.

However I have noticed an issue when I stream to other devices such as my SB touch or mobile devices using Gizmo.  On some tracks there is very loud and noticeable crackle.  After reading other threads I have checked and tried changing the following items:

Disabling all DSP options   - No Effect
Play from memory            - No Effect
Change Buffer Size           - No Effect
Convert Audio formats       -No Effect
Running a wired set up     - No Effect

The files that appear to impacted are all Hi Res  24 Bit  There are no problems with my wav files.   The problem appears on the same spots on the same tracks.  I have checked out files with Audacity - no clipping issues etc

I thought it may have been my router or network.  However streaming files directly using Logitec Media server was fine.
I installed a version of MC18 on a portable stick and ran it on a separate machine as a client.  When I played back the files on the client  there were no crackles.  I assume this was because primary MC18 was only behaving like a file server in this configuration.

Any thoughts.

BTW after upgrading to MC18 I now have two options for parametric EQ in my DSP setting dialog box.  They both do the same thing

Thanks

It sounds like you are playing to a DLNA device that doesn't nicely support WAV tags.

You just need to tell Media Center to present the data as PCM to work around the device bug.  More here:
